Here' a little money-saving tip I use when I'm out drinking with friends:

Try to be in the bathroom when the bill comes. It takes a little practice to get the timing down, but eventually you'll find it to be a valueable cost-saving strategy.

I try to stay off my ass. I get REALLY REALLY tired of "sitting around"...I try to take after my mom who is productive at every waking moment. If I was HALF as productive as her I'd be a rival to Bill Gates.

But Joshua, it seems I'm not the one who has a lot of stuff going on. From talking to you, it seems like you've got a plate overflowing with activity!

I did a "Joshua Estrin Wendy's" Google search and found the misquoting article. I got a laugh out of the name, "Menu for Recovery" HA!

At least they got your name right!
-Nev

Neville,

You should find a hotel with a free happy hour and go to town! Or just dress up and have a sugar mama buy you a drink or ten.

Budgeting Babe

You speak the truth when you say going out takes a toll on the finances...I can easily drop $100 - $200 per night if I'm not paying attention: drinks, cover, cabs, food, etc. Granted Chicago is a bit more expensive than Austin, but it adds up just the same.

Why is having fun so expensive?

Brian,
Didn't know you were an Austinite!

Anonymous,
I love your comment, primarily because I am a huge carnivore. I don't think I could EVER become a vegetarian.

I formally retract my vegetarian statement. Now, I only wish I was a non-drinking anorexic :-)

Dude, being a vegetarian is way more expensive than eating meat. Try to cook a filling meal with only vegetibles and you will see what i am talking about.

Hey Nev, we like to hit up Fuel early on in the night because of the cheap drink prices. It's usually $1-$2 for wells (even on Fri & Sat nights!) and the bartenders a great at making them nice and strong. We usually stay there until around 11PM or so then move on to more expenive places.

Have a good weekend!
Personal Finance for the New Age
