What’s In My ROTH IRA

July 15, 2005 by Neville

Today I logged into my ROTH IRA for the first time since I started it in March.

I put $5,000 into it and just left it there. I called Ameritrade for my username/password and found out that my account value is $5,032!

Apparently it was all sitting in some sort of money market account building interest. I’ll slowly start hunting for places to put that 5k.

On a different note……
I had a cool post prepared to put up, but I nixed it because I got a great business idea from it! No one has done anything like it before, and it can easily be a very very simple way to earn $1,000+ every month.

I’ll have the site and service fully operational within two weeks or a month max. No public details yet.

I’ve also found out that having my name so closely associated with this site has its drawbacks….when I try to negotiate a deal, people KNOW I have at least $X amount of money, so I can’t pull the “I can’t afford that!” routine.

Vonage, WordPress, Stock, Starbucks

July 12, 2005 by Neville

My longest held business has a phone number, and paying for phone service costs me around $21/month. Since I deal with people in all states, I always call people back with my cell phone….this confuses customers with different area codes and intermingles my personal and work life.

The perfect answer seems to be Vonage. So long as you have a broadband connection, you can get unlimited phone service anywhere in the United States and Canada for $25/month. You can also select ANY area code and number, no matter where you are.

I bought a nice Vonage Router from Fry’s this weekend which also doubles as a wireless router. Cost: $118 with $100 rebate. I just sign up on their website and hook my phone directly into the router.

On Another Note:

For some other side projects, I’ve learned to use the WordPress blogging system. I installed it on my server with ease and picked it up quickly. It was extremely dynamic, quick and intuitive. Anyone with just a little bit of web publishing experience can pick it up in minutes.

On Yet Another Note:

Here are my current longterm stock holdings:

And on One More Note:

I did a Google Guide a while back, and to prove I knew what I was talking about, I did an experiment concerning the keyword “Starbucks Liquor”.

Well, the experiment worked and put me in the #1 spot when “Starbucks Liquor” is searched on Google. I get several hundred hits on my site p/week from people typing that keyword, so I decided to give them what they were searching for: Starbucks Liquor Recipe’s!

FancyBlog

July 8, 2005 by Neville

What the f-heck…FancyBlog.com actually gets traffic, and AdSense clicks?

This obscure little side business I started on April 29th in a coffee shop has fallen off my radar for quite sometime.

I quickly got bored of the site and only posted very few blog templates. The idea was solid and pretty unique, I just didn’t further pursue it.

I checked today and was surprised it got ANY traffic at all. Apparently it’s getting over 160 hits a day and an average of two Google Adsense clicks per day. Interesting.

I immediately redesigned the site with Dreamweaver instead of Frontpage and I will post it this weekend. I will also try to updated it twice a week. I already made all the page templates today and just have to copy/paste more blog templates.

It won’t be a big money maker, but a $100 check every now and then wouldn’t be so bad. I still refuse to put Adsense on NevBlog.

Overspent

July 6, 2005 by Neville

The weekend was a blast, but more expensive than I had prepared for. I started the weekend with $78 in spending money, but ended up spending $105.

This is a first for me and unacceptable. For punishment, I am setting my spending account at $-27. No spending till it’s back in black.

Of all the fun things I spent my money on, this Ying Yang Chocolate Martini was probably the most delicious. It was almost painful to ruin such a work of art by drinking…..it was like eating a Picasso.

And of course it was also Independence Day. I had to reflect for a moment on all the people who paid the ultimate price for the freedom and opportunity I enjoy every single day.

And on an entirely different note, I think sombrero + 6th Street would be a good mix:

Account Balances Now and Later

June 28, 2005 by Neville

When I look at my account balances, I currently see this:

Within the next three years or so, I plan to dramatically increase those amounts. I am currently working on several business deals and hopefully have more on the way.

In a few years, it is very possible to pull up the same screen and see these account balances:

Perhaps one day I will look back at this and laugh how high or low I set my sights.

Until that day…I’ll keep charging forward.
And when that day comes, I’ll keep charging on.

Easiest job in the world

June 24, 2005 by Neville

It’s possible to do nothing and get paid.
I would know, because it’s my job.

I oversee the computer lab on the 5th floor of the Law School Library at the University of Texas. I only work nights when no one is here.

This is how I work for the 3 or 4 hours I am there:

I get paid $7.32 an hour. The pay is relatively low, but consider what I do:

–1.) If someone asks for help, I help them.
–2.) If someone prints something, I place their printout on a table 4 feet away from the printer.

Of course at night no one is here to ask questions and no one is here to print. Therefore I get paid to do homework, business or anything else (Where do you think I created NevBlog from??)

This is a perfect student job because you can get so much work done during work.

Not only do I do nothing, I also get:

  • A really cool boss (But he leaves at 5:00pm, so I never see him).
  • Free printing
  • Free use of computers, scanners, DVD burners etc.
  • Fridge
  • Wireless internet
  • Average of $260 paycheck every 2 weeks.

Walk through the library with me through this video:

Warning: I always have plenty of “stuff” to do, so working night hours is perfect for me. Other co-workers however have found night hours to be “Mindnumbingly boring” and “Excruciatingly quiet“

The Bike Project

June 23, 2005 by Neville

Have you ever asked yourself if you could fit a full size bike into the trunk of a 2004 Toyota Camry???

Well the answer is yes.

I bought a bike from Wal-Mart last night…It cost me $118

Surprisingly, it went straight into my trunk without any problem. I put the back seats down and it slipped right in.

Thursday after school, I’ll see how long the four mile ride to campus takes.

For now, the bike is sitting in my music room (a.k.a. the 4th bedroom of my apartment)

Physical Activity + Productivity = Good

June 22, 2005 by Neville

When I am productive AND physically active during a day, I feel great. I don’t feel good if I’m only productive or only active.

I’ve recently had a busy schedule:
-Wake up, class till 2:30pm.
-Work on business projects w/ associates away from campus.
-6:30pm – leave associates, go to job from 7 till 10:00pm.
-Workout till 11:00pm.
-Go home, eat my first meal of the day.
-Do a little more work, wrap up the day, sleep.

While I’ve theoretically been productive all day, I don’t FEEL it. This is because my workouts are not intense enough or long enough these days, they are also late at night. A combination of not eating and entire days spent working on a computer leave me feeling weak and unmotivated at the gym.

I’ve got a lot of bus riding and car driving in my schedule now. This needs to stop.

I am going to cut out my 4 mile bus rides to campus and start riding a bike (which I need to buy). Going to and from campus everyday will now be an 8 mile roundtrip by bike. This can replace the cardio portion of my workouts.

For this plan to work, I need to:
-Wake up earlier
-Eat a PROPER breakfast
-Buy a bike

Inspiration and a Mercedes

June 20, 2005 by Neville

I went to a wedding in Houston this weekend. There I met a friend who recently bought a Mercedes S55 AMG and a Mercedes SL600 (you read right: six hundred). Together these two cars cost well over $200,000.

I was tossed the keys to the S55 AMG and I played around in it.

I had been drinking, so the most I did was rev it up. There’s a very excited Neville inside that car:

As I came back to Austin on Sunday night, I posted up some quotes in my room. The wall to the left of my desk is now my “Motivation Wall”

There are also several quotes posted around random areas of my room, like near my mirror:

My favorite short quote on there is:

“I’m a great believer in luck,
and I find the harder I work,
the more I have of it”

–Thomas Jefferson

My favorite long quote on there is:

“Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning a lion wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death.
It doesn’t matter if you are a lion or a gazelle.
When the sun comes up, you better be running.”

A Rose by any other name….

June 17, 2005 by Neville

There is me, Neville Medhora, and there is Enwon Inc.

Type “Enwon” into Google and it suggests searching for “Enron” instead. Yes, I am fully aware there is a phonetic similarity between the two names.

Enwon Inc. is a legal entity created to signify the doings of Neville Medhora. I like having a holding company to report earnings under. It may not be completely necessary now, but it will be in the future.

Enwon was created through the phonetic translation of the letter and number combination “N-1” which was a shortened version of my first website: Neville1.com

It stuck.

I get asked all the time if I recognize the striking resemblence “Enwon” has to the scandal-stricken company “Enron”…yes, and I don’t mind it.

1.) People always take a second-glance at the name.
2.) After that second glance, people NEVER forget the name.
